Chalupkova

The competition entry for the revitalisation of the former 'Chaloupkova' industrial zone near the centre of Bratislava aimed to create a mixed-use quarter with a predominantly residential function. The international architectural competition worked with a total capacity of 133,400 m² as set out in the regulatory plan, which also determined the placement of high-rise landmarks.

Our proposal draws on a traditional urban structure that maintains the street line with a clear definition of public spaces. The individual buildings are complemented by an active ground floor with shops and offices, not only along the outer perimeter but also within the block.
The massing of the new city block establishes a base cornice height at the level of the 8th above-ground floor, supplemented by set-back storeys and, at prominent corners, by high-rise accents. At the natural centre of the site, a square with a circular water feature is positioned to serve as the vibrant heart of the new quarter.

The design is divided into individual buildings, each with a distinct architectural expression. This creates a desirable architectural diversity while also allowing for flexible phasing of the project.
