Quadrio – Office

Quadrio is a mixed-use building that fills the gap created during the construction of the metro in the 1970s. On a 6,000 m² plot, the natural urban structure has been restored, including the re-establishment of Spálená and Purkyňova streets.

The building is a volumetric composition of four separate 'cubes', internally linked by a central circulation core. The gaps between these cubes create the entrance spaces and serve as their visual accents.

The façade is horizontally articulated by substantial cornices in artificial stone and vertically by pillars of black granite. The crown of the building is formed by an unconventional glass edge with a set-back parapet, which lightens the building's mass.

From the outset, the project was driven by the ambition to regenerate the public realm. The result is a generous arcade at the tram stop, an arcade passage running through the entire building, and a new square on Vladislavova Street. The square is now complemented by David Černý's kinetic sculpture – the revolving head of Franz Kafka – which has become a natural magnet for residents and visitors to Prague alike.
