We designed the THAYA experiential winery as a place where architecture, wine and landscape merge into a unique whole. Our inspiration came from the character of traditional Moravian villages and the atmosphere of local farmyards where wine has been processed for centuries.

At the heart of the complex is a historic granary from the former agricultural cooperative, which becomes the natural focal point around which the new facilities unfold – production, technology and accommodation. The winery thus extends beyond wine production alone, offering a complete experience: from tastings and gastronomy to accommodation and relaxation in the landscape.

The urban design concept was inspired by the nearby village of Havraníky, whose egg-shaped village green surrounds a centrally positioned Baroque church. Just as on the Havraníky green, the trees with large canopies in the THAYA winery courtyard provide welcome shade, and flowing water tempers the climate on hot summer days.
The granary has been restored with an emphasis on preserving the original form and articulation of the building and retaining as many original elements as possible, such as the steel and timber structures, original plasterwork and refurbished original industrial lamps.

The roof of the production wing, which floats above an artificially created hillock echoing the rolling terrain of southern Moravia, is constructed with timber trusses and traditional plain clay tiles.

An important component of the entire complex is the landscaping, both within the courtyards themselves and in the form of green roofs on the cellar and apartment buildings, which are planted with trees, shrubs and flowers typical of the local native rocky hillocks that separate the geometrically laid-out vineyards.

The winery also includes a 28-room hotel with a wellness centre. The hotel rooms were designed using traditional materials such as brick flooring, timber floors and solid oak furniture. All interiors have been executed with an emphasis on craftsmanship and detail.
