The new building of Praha-Bubny Station forms part of the ongoing modernisation of the Prague – Airport – Kladno railway line. The first construction phase covers the section from the Negrelli Viaduct to Praha-Bubny Station and continues across a railway overpass to the new Praha-Výstaviště stop.

The discussion on modifying the already prepared design was prompted by a new urban study for the entire adjacent development area of Bubny – Zátory by Thomas Müller Ivan Reimann Architekten and Pelčák a partner architekti, which defines significant new urban spaces in the vicinity of the Vltavská metro station. These include, in particular, the Vltava Philharmonic Hall, a new square running along the entire eastern edge of the future station, and the Memorial of Silence in the northern part of the site. Together with the Philharmonic Hall, the new station will become the natural centre of a newly emerging quarter linking Lower Holešovice with Letná.
A fundamental requirement for the revised design was to prepare a hall-type platform canopy in such a way that the structure would allow for future construction above the tracks themselves. The massing of the building is therefore divided into two phases over time. The first is the so-called commissioning phase, in which the station is fully operational but the connections and links in all directions across the site are not yet activated; the second is the future phase, in which the building above the tracks and along the western edge of the station will be constructed without significant disruption to operations.
In the first phase, the station roof above the southern concourse is designed as a viewing terrace, from which it will be possible to look out over both the city centre and the newly emerging quarter.
