Converting a manufacturing complex into housing seemed an almost impossible task at first glance, yet it is precisely in this challenge that the strength of the project lies – one that can now offer an unconventional type of living.
The 1960s building has the presence of a majestic liner anchored in the landscape. We chose to preserve this character while introducing new elements. The building comprises seven residential sections which, thanks to a central entrance and a ground-floor arcade with amenities, are united in the manner of an urban palace. Together with the Alto project, a tranquil courtyard is created, featuring landscaped gardens, private front gardens, a café and a children's playground.
The architectural concept accentuates the three original projecting bays, which are complemented by slender glazed rooftop extensions with roof terraces and gardens. On the roofs of the new sections, skyboxes with their own terraces and greenery are positioned. The extensions have a lightweight feel and provide attractive flats with exceptional views and comfort. Flats on the lower floors additionally offer generous floor-to-ceiling heights of 4.1–4.6 metres and the option of inserted mezzanine galleries.
